The DHS Student Government recently hosted the Trunk or Treat Halloween event and invited hundred of kids to the school where lines of cars, decorated and overflowing with candy, filled the field, waiting for the dressed up crowd to make their way over. Members of clubs at DHS were encouraged to participate by bringing their car to the event and representing their club through posters and activities. Kids dressed as dinosaurs, spiderman, unicorns, princesses, and other creative costumes raced through the rows of club stations. This year’s event drew in over 57 DHS clubs and sports teams – the most that we have ever had! It was an amazing showcase of the community that has been built in Darien and an opportunity for all the clubs to show school spirit. Luli Escajadillo, 2026 Class Representative, said “it’s a great event that gets the community together. We hope that it continues into next year!”

The Neirad Club was one of many who represented itself at Trunk or Treat. A giant orange bowl filled to the brim with candy was accompanied by a Neirad related activity. The trick or treaters were given a newspaper-like drawing activity in which they could draw the best Halloween costume. Many kids stood at the table, drawing unique costumes, while some brought the paper home, excited for an activity later. Parents showed a similar excitement to the club’s newspaper activity and watched cheerfully as their kids drew with valiant enthusiasm.
Another notable club with a popular activity was Choose Love Club who turned their duck logo into a quick game to get candy. Trick or treaters got to pick a duck out of a bucket of water. On the bottom of each duck had a color and they would win candy or trinkets that corresponded to that color. One duck had the “jackpot” in which the prize was a bowl full of candy. The club empowers people to respond to life’s challenges with love, kindness, and compassion. Its club message was seen through the spirit it brought to the event. Grace Palomo, Co-President of the club, said “we had a lot of fun giving back to the community and sharing our message.”

Not only were clubs at the event, but sports teams represented themselves as well. The girls and boys captains from the soccer teams manned their car, bringing even more excitement to the day. Their activity consisted of rolling a pumpkin towards orange water bottles set up as bowling pins. The prize for knocking all the water bottles over halloween bracelets, spider rings, mini squishes, and more halloween trinkets.
The general consensus was that this year’s Trunk or Treat was an overall success. With a record breaking attendance from clubs and sports teams helped bring in kids from all across the town. The event raised $1700 which will be donated to Darien Human Services. “I was thrilled with the turnout at Trunk or Treat from both the clubs at Darien High School and from members of the local community. It’s always great to have people join together and support others in need,” reported School President Neev Sahgal.
