The boys’ lacrosse team ended a seven-year state championship drought with a 10–9 win over New Canaan in the Class LL State Championship game.

Darien entered the game as the underdog, having not beaten New Canaan since its 8–5 victory in the CIAC Class LL semifinal. In their most recent meeting during the regular season, Darien lost 13–8. Despite that, the game remained close throughout, with neither team able to pull away.
Darien was determined to win, as it was the seniors’ final game with the Blue Wave following their loss to Staples in the FCIAC semifinals. The team relied on a balanced effort on both ends of the field and made key plays late to secure the victory.
Senior Wes Scallen led the offense with four goals, while the defense came up with several important stops in the second half. Goalkeeper Blake Wilson made a save in the final seconds to preserve the one-goal lead and seal the championship.
The title is the program’s first state championship since 2019 and caps off a season defined by consistency and strong team play. After advancing through a competitive playoff bracket, Darien delivered one of its best performances of the year when it mattered most.

For the senior class, the win caps a successful four-year run and gives the program another state title in its history. It also came in a year when Darien’s girls’ lacrosse team continued its dominant run, winning not only states for the second year in a row but also FCIACs as well, once again proving Darien as one of the top programs in the state.
With the victory, Darien finishes the season as Class LL state champions.
