On April 25, the Darien Girls Track and Field program welcomed runners from La Rochelle High School in Paarl, South Africa. In preparation for the Penn Relays this weekend at the University of Pennsylvania, these phenomenal athletes participated in an already scheduled dual meet between Darien and Wilton. The Wilton High School Athletics Instagram page thanked many Wilton families “for hosting the girls while they are here on their visit”.

The team put on a great show for the athletes and spectators alike. The runners took six spots in the top 10 of the 100m dash and swept the top 3 finishes. Additionally, they ran the top four fastest times in the 200m, with the winning time of 25.58.

When talking to these girls, they were so kind and excited to be here. “It was lovely to meet you all,” Kikki Abrahams, one of the runners from La Rochelle, said.

Even though their performances did not count for the overall meet scores, they made their presence known as they dominated all of the races they ran. They will go on to run in a national meet against top high school competitors this weekend, but it is worth noting that they paid DHS athletics a visit.
