5 fall recipes to get in the fall spirit
Sweetening the Season

With fall foliage at its peak it time to take out your pumpkin spice lattes, cozy up on the couch, and watch some Gimore Girls. But you can’t do that without some snacks so here are five recipes for your next binge session.

I asked Darien High School students whether they liked to bake or not and  some of their favorite fall flavors and got ninety-nine responses. Turns out 88% of students like to bake at least sometimes and it’s always nice to have new ideas.

The perfect remedy for your sweet tooth. With the most delectable crumble on top, these apple pie bars are perfect. (Parker Feierbach)

Everyone loves a good apple pie with a hefty scoop of ice cream on top. But a recipe from Delish, puts a twist on the classic apple pie by making apple pie bars. Apple pie can get messy, this recipe is a lot easier to share and even boasts a “no fuss crust” and an amazing crumble topping. It’s a treat that might even top a classic apple pie.

The bars can be stored for three to four days or frozen for up to three months, and while they may seem complicated they are a lot simpler than they seem, only requiring six steps. So if you have a spare two and a half hours and need a sweet treat, apple pie bars may be what you need.

Now, it could not be fall recipes without something pumpkin related, and while you could make a classic pumpkin pie in just an hour you can have cream cheese pumpkin bars. A recipe from Food and Wine brought to us

Nothing can go wrong when combining two classic desserts: pumpkin pie and cheesecake. (Sarah Kieffer)

by Sarah Kieffer It’s like two amazing desserts, pumpkin pie and cheesecake combined. While this recipe is shorter than the apple pie bars it does seem a bit more involved it is just because there are a lot of moving parts. You’ll need three different bowls for this.

To make this recipe you must make the crust, then the pumpkin filling, then the cream cheese filling. You also have to be experienced in registering the temperature of foods as the center of these bars has reached 150° before they are done baking. So, this may be a recipe for people who want a challenge.

Chai Tea cookies: cookies so good Taylor Swift could write a song about them. (Joy the Baker)

If you’ve ever been in a Starbucks around fall there were probably twenty chai tea lattes sitting on the counter, and I’m sure at this point everyone has heard of Taylor Swift before. So, when you put those two very popular things together you get Taylor Swift’s chai sugar cookies, a recipe she adapted from a blog many years ago that went viral and Joy the Baker tells us exactly how to make them in under 2 hours.

I have made these and they are delicious but I will say this recipe has a ton of ingredients, many of them in measurements like ¼ or ⅛ teaspoons so it is a bit less accessible than the others. But other than that the steps are pretty straight forward and similar to other sugar cookie recipes, the unique aspect being nutmeg eggnog like glaze. It’s a delicious recipe for a cozy fall binge party.

Warm, Sweet, and Delicious: Cinnamon Bites. How could you not love them? (The Recipe Rebel)

There is nothing that screams fall more than waking up on a crisp fall morning with a view of red and yellow leaves on the trees outside. Then, smelling warm cinnamon wafting through the air: cinnamon rolls. The only thing better than a regular cinnamon roll is a mini one. Cinnamon roll bites are the perfect treat for your fall morning especially when they are straight from the oven and a recipe by The Recipe Rebel tells us exactly how to make them. There is no yeast in this recipe so the dough only takes five to ten minutes and the bites are cooked in one layer so you can snack on these as fast as possible. It’s such a simple treat that you can even prepare it the night before so it makes enjoying breakfast even easier.

The ingredients used are things you most likely already have like milk, butter, flour, baking powder, salt, powdered sugar, and of course cinnamon. These come together in just four easy steps and if you have extra dough you can stick them in the fridge or freezer and bake them later on. When you are done snacking if you have extras you can store them at room temperature for 2 days or in the fridge for seven days. These cinnamon roll bites are so deliciously easy there is no reason to not make them.

Our last dessert seems a bit unusual, but trust the process because the chocolate pudding cake recipe from

You get two desserts in one with this delicious recipe for chocolate pudding cake. The best part is you can top it with anything you want! (Fred Hardy)

Southern Living looks absolutely delicious. While chocolate is not technically a fall flavor, DHS students seem to love it. But what actually is a pudding cake because it is not just a cake with pudding, but it makes a pudding like sauce when baking. This dessert doesn’t even have pudding mix but still turns out silky smooth and if you love chocolate lava cake this might be perfect for you.

This cake comes together in seven pretty simple steps and takes just over an hour to put together. You most likely have many of the ingredients at home already maybe not an instant espresso packet or unsweetened cocoa. It’s a trusting process kind of dessert but will turn out amazing if you follow through with it, and in the end you can top it with things like caramel or a scoop of ice cream. As for storing this is a dessert that should be stored in the fridge as leaving it out can make it spoil and the longest you can keep it in your fridge is five days so make sure you eat it before it can go bad.

Hopefully, with some new recipes you are feeling in the fall spirit and can enjoy a good day of apple picking, binge watching, and hanging out with family and friends.
