In 2023, seniors Nadja Roeser and Elise Schulman founded the Knots n’ Needles club to share their love for yarn art. Today, its forty-one members spend their Friday afternoons in Room A209 sewing, crocheting, or knitting, usually while watching a movie.
“The mission of Knots n’ Needles has always been to give people a space to creatively express themselves,” Nadja says, and there are countless reasons to join– for instance, the club can guide you through the process of learning a new hobby. Since a large portion of members are complete beginners, walking in with no experience is very comfortable. Watch a tutorial with a friend, experiment with the piles of free supplies, or ask a club leader for help. Many people have learned like this; Ms. Chajon, a club faculty advisor, was first taught how to crochet by Nadja and Elise. Now, she has crocheted several sets of baby clothes as gifts and is currently working on a large blanket!

If you’re already familiar with yarn art, consider joining Knots n’ Needles for its community. After all, it’s more fun to create with other people! The club also has a laid-back atmosphere: people usually chat over snacks and board games as the movie plays.
Anyone is welcome to Knots n’ Needles, regardless of their age or skill level. There is no application process– just swing by! For more details, join their Google Classroom with the code owzgii2, or follow knots_n_needles.dhs on Instagram. Feel free to email [email protected] with any questions.
