Most Underrated Songs
From the first pulse of the heart in Speak to Me to the last echoes in Eclipse, The Dark Side of the Moon remains a masterclass in sonic storytelling—an album that bends time, space, and the very fabric of human experience, leaving listeners questioning not just the music, but their place in the universe.
To keep the listener interested, as it’s difficult to listen to an album in one sitting, Lemonhead is a great addition. Tyler the Creator managed to stray away from his individualistic style and include a feature, 42 Dugg, that changed Tyler the Creator’s attitude in the music. This was something different. So, why is it under-hyped? Among the album, it sits in the limited 100,000,000 streams range, which didn’t help it stand out as much as it should have.I feel it is a niche Tyler song that shouldn’t be listened to more by the general rap music community. Led Zeppelin’s album, “Houses of the Holy” is revered for classic tracks like “Over the Hills and Far Away,” “D’yer Mak’er” and “The Rain Song.” But hidden deep inside, is the song “No Quater,” an atmospheric and magical tune capable of placing the listener in a mystical trance. With its dark, haunting mood and its innovative song structure, “No Quater” stands as a testament to Led Zeppelin’s creative musical intuition, demonstrating a depth that demands a closer look.
Dreamer is a very classic sounding song, and shows the true musical talent that Laufey has to offer. The soft piano accompaniment allows for listeners to focus on Laufey’s stellar vocals, and highlight the song itself, rather than being overproduced. This style is similar to those of Ella Fitzgerald or Nina Simone. This musical masterpiece is severely underrated to other works that have blown up on social media. While her more well known songs, such as From the Start and Letter to My 13 Year Old Self are both rhythmically and lyrically dynamic, Dreamer encapsulates the old timey magic that you don’t hear in today’s music. Dreamer is not only a hidden gem that young people should listen to, but it’s the perfect song for everyone of all ages to dance, sing or even fall asleep to.
Lana Del Rey’s 2014 album Ultraviolence cemented her position as the world’s queen of dark pop. With its haunting production, evocative lyrics, and vintage Hollywood melancholy, the album embraces a new ambiance that is hard to forget: romance, tragedy, and self-destruction. Throughout Ultraviolence’s deep dive of love and longing, there are well known gems but hidden ones as well.
“Black Hair” from the album DCU by Alex G is a popular song I’ve heard since It’s always popping up on my TikTok. The instrumentals and type of vocals that mix with it have unique sounds you don’t usually hear. They take most of the attention at the beginning and end of the song. The lyrics don’t catch my attention, and the song’s production feels lacking. One example is “Black Hair It’s swimming in My Head, Black Hair, it’s bigger than death.” (2:06-20:16). The lyrics are not generic but tied in with the instrumentals. The song is not bad; it just doesn’t invoke as much emotion as it had on me when I first came across it. Seeing it across many social media platforms made it feel watered down. People use the song in their TikToks for aesthetic purposes, making it seem more like a trendy song making it seem less like what the song was at its core.
Live at Kennedy Center Honors 2012 “Stairway to Heaven” by Heart, features a thrilling rendition of Led Zepplin’s “Stairway to Heaven” that is more than simply a tribute to the group’s greatness but is also an elaboration of the song’s emotional intensity. Although many songs were performed that night, Heart’s take on this song stands out as the highlight of the night and the musical technicality and mastery required were performed perfectly to articulate the Song in Honor of Led Zepplin.
