It’s said a cat has nine lives. For kitten Wally, that’s hard to believe.
Having experienced an event more traumatizing in his first week on this planet than the average cat experiences in their entire life(s) cycle, that’s a dreaded, if not unfathomable, claim.
Six months ago, Wally was found in a hole in a neighbor’s stone wall, the sole survivor of a fatal attack against his litter perpetrated by a group of neighboring dogs.
Less than one week old at the time of the incident, there is a chance, fortunately, that Wally cannot recall a single instance of it.
If he does, he’s able, at least, to acknowledge the privilege of a day spent with just three worries on his mind: locating sufficient sun, filling food, and a healthy amount of brotherly mischief.
Wally may end up inches from where he starts this photo-story, but he goes to bed with those three critical tasks completed.
7:46 AM: Good morning, Wally! Wally soaks up the sun atop the kitchen trash can. He can be found relaxing nearly anywhere in the house, his top spots being his parents’ bed, the green living room sofa, and the family room hardwood. Admittedly, this had to be one of his strangest ones. In his defense, though, stainless steel does have reflective properties!
7:53 AM: Wally traverses the kitchen, leaps onto the ledge, and sets himself in prime nature-viewing position. Soaking up the sun yet again, he spends the next half hour alternating between staring intently out the kitchen window and nurturing his mind with mini-naps in preparation for the next opportunity to spot a critter.
9:31 AM: Having perched himself atop a different window seat, this one located in the family room, Wally wakes from a morning nap slightly dazed but satisfyingly restored. After posing for this photo, he puts his head back down and quickly falls asleep. If you can’t tell yet, the life of a kitten is tiring!
11:50 AM: Wally ventures to the home office, greeting his father who is busy doing some work before taking in the view of fauna (not to mention his neighbor’s siding). An indoor-cat, Wally has dreams of making his way outside (dreams partially fulfilled by the constant escapes he makes at every opening of the patio door he is awake to hear, setting the Dehmel family into a fury of retrieval through the back yard).
1:45 PM: Wally, albeit he’s already had two sizable meals, spends his midafternoon adrift in the aroma of fresh apple. While his brother snacks on SunChips, Wally begs for a bite with his pleading eyes. To the dismay of his mother, who is petrified of Wally summoning the confidence to eventually steal “human” food, he recieves a bite.
5:07 PM: After pouncing on her mid-nap from the altitude of a kitchen table chair, Wally enters a chase down with his cockapoo sister, Clementine (check out Clemmy’s day in the life here ). Their relationship is definitely still love-hate, but it has improved immensely since the week of Wally’s arrival, when Clemmy was visibly not too pleased about Wally detracting from the attention she previously had uncontested domain over.
5:08 PM: Amends made, Wally wallows in a well-earned nap. With Clementine busy getting comfortable in her next favorite nap-spot in another room, it appears Wally has won (or, more accurately, taken advantage of his infantile ability to sustain a fight longer than his aging sister).
8:10 PM: The conclusion of Wally’s final meal of the day means it’s almost time for bed. You may be expecting the next image to encapsulate him asleep in his own water, but he soon makes it to his bedroom, turning in early in preparation of the possibility of adventures awaiting him tomorrow. Sweet dreams!
