The movie Surprise Me follows the story of Genie; Genie is a surprise party planner who ironically despises surprises. Her relationship is less than perfect, with her partner, Steven, calling out seemingly every flaw she possesses. Her friend Danny would be the perfect choice for her, but she can’t seem to bring herself to pull him out of the friend zone. Then, along comes Jeff. Jeff is a manifestation of all the things she has she spent her life trying to avoid.
Genie’s agency, Surprise Enterprise is hired by an anonymous Hollywood producer in order to throw a surprise wedding for his girlfriend. Genie struggles with coaxing the bride-to-be down the aisle, while not revealing to her the surprise her boyfriend is planning.
All the while, while Genie struggles to perform her job to the best of her ability, Jeff is begging for a commitment, and Danny’s new girlfriend is super annoying. Genie seems to fall prey to cookies and cereal each night rather than romance. As Genie balances one thing after another she comes to realize that in real life there are complications, and emotions, struggles, and most of all SURPRISES.
