“A Star is Born” Review

I for one am not a fan of popular movies. They tend to be overrated and over talked about, ending in my expectations being let down. Frozen, LaLa Land, and The Greatest Showman are all perfect examples of the movies that made me lose my trust in Blockbusters.  However, after hearing an uncomfortable amount about Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga’s A Star is Born, I had to see if all the hype was deserving. Having always been a huge fan of Lady Gaga, I was curious to see how her incredible talent of showbiz was resembled in her very first high profile movie.

A Star is Born actually is based on true events. The relationship of Judy Garland and James Mason is similar to the way that Jackman Maine (Bradley Cooper) and Ally (last name) (Lady Gaga) met. There was also a 1976 version of A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand and Kenny Loggins. Though I haven’t seen the 1976 version, I don’t think it compares to the beauty of A Star is Born (2018).
During the drive to the movie theater, my sister informed me that I would be crying throughout the movie uncontrollably. As the film started I questioned her statement, I was engulfed in the happiness of the movie. Jackson Maine is a heartbreak with a serious drinking problem trying to get through the pain of his past in his current life, taking Ally under his wing as an artist. There was hope for Ally in the music industry and her talent was only growing. As a couple, Jackson and Ally were also perfect. They have chemistry and keep eachother stable. However, by the end it’s surely a fact that no one can get through that film without crying. They head-over-heels couple soon fall into the depths of the dark side of fame, while Jackson is slowly leaving the spotlight and Ally is just going into it. The two still share the same passion for one another, but the materalistim that has been ingrained in Ally rips Jackson apart.

I had a hard time breathing due to my throat being clogged with tears. Lady Gaga does an amazing jobs of showing the truth of showbiz no matter who is up to the task. To my surprise, “The Hangover” star showed his incredible acting skills through his talent to basically rip my heart out and tear it apart. Though Bradley Cooper did not receive the same positive publicity that Lady Gaga got, he did an impeccable job having wrote, directed, acted, and sang and song wrote throughout the movie. Bradley Cooper is really a jack of all trades.

If you don’t believe me, the critics, or all of social media, I went around DHS to see the reactions across the student body.

“I cannot stop listening to the album. It’s awesome and the movie was incredible,” says senior Willy Keating.
